Maybe you have tried to get them out of your home, but they still return. Maybe you just don't want to even give them a chance. You want these rats the dead and out of your home. Perfectly understandable. However, you don't want to be cool about it. You want something quick and humane that will terminate the rat. Now you want to know what are some humane ways to kill a rat?

The Traditional Trap
You want to start with the most obvious of solutions. The traditional rat trap, the one where the mechanism is released, causing a bar to snap down on the rat, killing it instantly, is the most humane way. It is extremely quick. Most rats die within the first few minutes after that trap closes on them. It is true that some survive. If the trap hits them in the wrong way, they may just break a leg or suffer some kind of lower body injury, but still be able to slither away. That does happen. However, this has traditionally worked and is a humane way to do the job.

Harpoon Traps
If you are looking for something with a 100% kill rate, then the harpoon trap may be your best option. This is a cage like structure where the rat is drawn in by the bait. When it touches the mechanism, a harpoon like projectile plunges through the body of the rat, killing it instantly. This is an extremely quick and effective way to get rid of rat. However, you should be aware that it can be rather messy. You may have some cleanup to do after the job is done.

Drowning
One way that is rather cheap and extremely effective is to set up a kind of trap that will cause the rat to drown. This is done quite simply. Fill a bucket about halfway full of water and cover the surface with peanuts or some other food that a rat would like. Then, place a board from the ground to the top of the bucket, very much like a ramp. Place a couple of peanuts or other bait on the board near the top to lure the animal onto the ramp. The rat will look down into the bucket in see the food below. It will believe that it is just food and will not realize that there is water underneath it. When it falls into try to eat the food, it will be trapped inside the bucket. After a short period of time, it will succumb to the wariness of paddling and drown. These are quick and easy methods that can help you to get rid of a rat in a humane way. Each of them is quite effective and will ensure that you don't have to worry about your rat problem any longer.
